Stavropol. Slum under the soldier
In early spring I managed to visit Stavropol. I admit right away that I was not familiar with this city nor with its history location borders people and my trip was nowhere.
Life was in full swing in the Stavropol Territory even far before us — in the city there is a Tatar settlement, where there were settlements even before our era. The history of the foundation of Stavropol dates back to 1777. In those days, the southern borders of Russia were very unstable and were often attacked by neighboring states. By order of Catherine II, the construction of a fortification line consisting of ten fortresses began. The Stavropol outpost became the main building in this chain, which was facilitated by its advantageous geographical position on a hill. Under his “supervision” were all the roads leading to the Volga and the Don. In addition, the fortress and its environs were used as a place for diplomatic negotiations. Over time, small villages appear around the military observation post in the form of soldiers' settlements and villages. Already six years after the construction of the fortress the rapid development of Stavropol turned it into an economic and administrative center. At the beginning of the 19th century the city’s territories were actively settled both by immigrants from the Russian provinces (Kursk Tambov Voronezh) and foreigners: for example in 1809 the authorities invited 50 Armenian families which marked the beginning of a friendly life in these territories. In 1976, in honor of the liberation of the city from the White Guards. Stavropol several times passed into the hands of the White Guards to the Red Guards, but the latter finally seized power in 1920. Budenovets under this name the monument is known among the people is a sculpture of a soldier with a rifle in his hands the total height of the monument is seven and a half meters. From the observation platform of the Fortress Mountain, where the monument is located a beautiful view of the North-Western district of the city opens.
Under the feet of a soldier the historical center of the city is located which includes Stavropolskaya, Podgornaya, Kazanskaya and Clara Zetkin streets. This area is called by the Stavropol people: “Slums for a soldier.” The deplorable state of roads houses and the overall aesthetic appearance of this place served as such a name. One of the reasons is that they are located on the Tashlyansky landslide area in the high landslide zone III-IV degree — houses built by a more modern method and from other materials “left for a walk” without a foundation. Second: the city administration ignoring the emergency state of the area the lack of restorations, improvements and improvements in the quality of life of the local population let’s even take the installation of garbage cans — there are only a couple of them at the exit to the beautiful city. And everything would be fine but why is the historical center left without attention when large avenues are restored and repaired every day improving the external gloss forgetting about the origins.
I’ll tell you about the people who live there: an honored anesthesiologist-resuscitator of the children’s regional hospital with her husband an economist-builder a teacher at the first music school that has lived in his family nest since birth artists pianists a composer whose works are appreciated not only by children violinist of the State Philharmonic, athletes, people who have had a difficult life but have not lost the mischievous gleam in their eyes and love which is really everywhere even if it catches on hops and falls into the mud. And there also live of course children who do not yet know what to expect from this world and accept tougher shells for the internal protection of their fragile soul.
After my seven-day trip through the “slums” I can’t turn my tongue so to speak. I was simultaneously inspired and immensely upset because after all no matter how we scold the state and external circumstances: the story begins with you and only you are able to fight and make your reality the way you need it.
